Daytona Beach, Florida— Karissa Hovinga (4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 SO) outlasted Eagle’s starting pitcher Zhao Xinxing(3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 SO) Wednesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida. The 6 -2 Wild victory is their second win of a 6-game series between the Canadian Wild and the Beijing Shougang Eagles.
The Park Planet Player of the Game went to Erika Polidori (2-4, R, 2 RBI, HR). Her 2 RBI’s were earned from a 2-run homer that she belted out to left field in the top of the 3rd inning. With the wind blowing in from right field one may think that the ball would be flying over the fence.
The opposite was the case when in the first 3 innings both teams combined for 3 homers. The first came in the Top of the 1st inning as Victoria Hayward (3-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, HR) belted one over the centerfield wall. The second came from her teammate Erika Polidori in the top of the 3rd. Finally, the 3rd homer was notched by Eagle Chen Jia (2-3, 2 H, 2 RBI, HR) which was a 2-run shot that cut the Wild’s lead down to one run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. That was the closest the Eagles got to the Wild as the Eagles ended up surrendering 3 more runs in the top of the 7th that would make the score 6-2.
The 6-game series continues tomorrow May 30th at 4:00pm EST and 6:30pm EST as the Wild and Eagles will face off for game 3 and 4 of the series.
