Washington explodes for 10 runs in win

CHANTILLY, VA – Virginia natives Courtney Bures (Haymarket, VA) and LaDonia Hughes (Farmville, VA) both recorded a pair of hits and four RBIs as the Washington Glory pounded the Chinese Taipei National Team, 10-0 Tuesday night at the Westfield Softball Complex.
Bures’ run producing single to left in the first inning proved to be the game-winner in the shutout victory. Hughes scored on the play as she reached earlier in the inning on a fielder’s choice and promptly stole second. Bures also launched a three-run home run in the fourth inning for her league-leading fifth round tripper of the season. Oli Keohohou then followed Bures with a home run of her own as it was the first time this season that the Glory hit back-to-back home runs.
Hughes drove in two of her four runs in the second inning with a single to right field, which scored Catalina Morris and Amber Jackson. Morris doubled to left earlier in the inning to score Callie Piper from third.
The big inning for the Glory was the bottom of the fourth as they scored a season-high six runs, which included the back-to-back blasts by Bures and Keohohou. Hughes also drove in two more runs in the fourth with a single up the middle scoring Morris and Jackson once again.
Washington erupted for 12 hits a day after striking out 11 times and only connecting for five base hits. Five players including Bures and Hughes had a pair of hits as Nicole Barber, Piper and Jackson all accomplished the same feat. Morris and Keohohou also pitched in with a hit.
Sarah Pauly was nearly flawless in her five innings of work for the Glory as she allowed just one hit and hit a batter while striking out two. Taryne Mowatt pitched the final two innings for Washington, and struck out three and allowed just one hit and hit a batter.

The same two teams meet Wednesday night at Westfield for game three of a four game series at 7:05 pm.
