Thunder escape with 3-2 win; Move to just one game of fourth

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford Thunder (18-26) had just two hits on the night, but managed to score three runs to move back to within one game of the final playoff spot in the NPF.

Box Score

Stephanie Best went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the way for the Rockford offense. Serena Settlemier (3-10) ended a multi-game winless streak in a dominating performance in the pitcher’s circle, giving up six hits over 6+ innings and allowing just one earned run.

The Thunder scored in two of the first three innings, first when Shanna Diller scored off of a wild pitch in the bottom of the second, and then in the third inning as Best drove Lindsay Gardner in with a single to left field.

After the Philadelphia Force (27-17) scored once to bring the score to back within one, the Thunder struck again in the bottom of the fifth, when Best drove Kristen Zaleski in on another single. The Force tacked on another run in the sixth, but couldn’t get a third, and Rockford won their first game of the series.

The Thunder will have a quick turnaround, playing Chicago on the road for a four-game set, beginning Thursday. The Thunder are organizing road trips for all four games. Contact Aaron Moore to book your spot on one of these road trips, which include food, tickets and transportation for just $20 per person.
