ROCKFORD – The Rockford Thunder of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) and General Manager Aaron M. Moore announced today that they would hold an open tryout for the 2008 season on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 at Sportscore One.
The Thunder will look to fill one or two roster spots out of players attending the tryout. The tryouts are open to all women who are at least 21 years old and have completed their college eligibility. Those athletes still in college and competing are not allowed to tryout due to NCAA regulations.
Last season, more than 35 athletes attended the team’s open tryout. The Thunder extended contracts to Jamie Davison and Noelle Adams following the tryout, and Davison has since moved full-time to Rockford.
“As a team, we’re going into the tryout looking for one or two athletes that will come in and contribute, said Moore. We were very fortunate last season with Jamie and Noelle, as each brought a different dynamic to the organization. This could be a great opportunity for a couple of athletes to play professional fastpitch.”
The cost of the tryout is $65 per participant. The fee includes a tryout t-shirt, 1.5 hours of workout time and 3-4 actual games with umpires. The tryout will take place on the Thunder’s actual game field.
To register for the open tryout, participants can download the registration form online at http://www.thunderprofastpitch.com/community/ or they can also call the team office at (815) 965-7000. Pre-registration forms are due in the office by April 30, 2008.
