ROSEMONT, IL (June 15, 2019) – The USA Softball Women’s National Team seek redemption against the USSSA Pride after a 7-3 upset on Friday (Jun. 14) with a 9-2 comeback Saturday afternoon (Jun. 15).

Team USA waited no time to get an early advantage in the first. Ali Aguilar drove a ball through the infield for an RBI single followed by a wild pitch that brought in another run for the Red, White, and Blue. Kirsti Merritt then drilled one out of the park for a three-run homer making it a 5-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

Bottom of the third, Team USA carried on an even bigger lead as Merritt drove home Delaney Spaulding and Valerie Arioto shadowed by Michelle Moultrie crossing the plate after an error that advanced USA’s lead to 8-0.

Amanda Lorenz put the USSSA Pride on the board after a solo homer to centerfield which shortened USA’s lead to 8-1 in the fifth.

Jessie Warren started it off for the Pride with solo homerun to right-center in the 6th but Shelby Pendley quickly got that run back after a double to center that scored Janie Takeda-Reed from USA.

Team USA ultimately came out on top with a 9-2 victory over the USSSA Pride. USA is set to continue their double header against the Chicago Bandits at 7 p.m. at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
