Rockford Takes Game Three Against the Riptide

August 6, 2008 – ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford Thunder (17-22) scored six unanswered runs Wednesday to defeat the New England Riptide (18-21) 6-2. The win moves the Thunder to within one game of the fifth-place Riptide, and they are only a game and a half back from fourth place – the last spot that earns a berth into the NPF playoffs.

Allison Kime (9-6) allowed just four hits to New England, including four perfect and five hitless innings. The Thunder got key hits from several players, and exploded for two- and three-run innings to provide a steady stream of scoring. Tonya Callahan had two hits and an RBI, Savannah Brown drove two in and scored once, and Lindsay Gardner went 2-for-3, including a home run to tie the game at two in the bottom of the first inning. After the 2-2 tie from the first inning, Rockford tacked on a run in the third when Callahan drove Amanda Williams in from first base with a stand-up double. Zaleski, Sandy Vojik, and Brown scored in the fifth inning for Rockford.

The Thunder and Riptide will play one more game on Thursday at 6:35 pm. That game will be the last “Ladies’ Night” of the season, and all women who buy tickets at the gate will be given four free vouchers to be used at any of the Thunder’s remaining home games.
