Riptide take game one of DH in extra innings

Lowell, Ma. –  Sunday’s game between the New England Riptide and Chicago Bandits took place 23 hours later than scheduled as the teams met for a double header today.
The game also ended past schedule as it went nine innings with the Riptide winning 4-3 on a single by Jessica Merchant to score Carri Martin who had walked and been sacrificed to second by Jackie Pasquerella. Riptide starting pitcher was Erica Beach who picked up a complete game win as the Bandits started Jessica Sallinger instead of last night’s scheduled starter Tracie Adix.
Sallinger failed to get her tenth win of the year although she did not lose. Tracie Adix (2-3) lost the game in relief.
The Riptide jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, starting when Gina Carbonatto led the inning off with a triple to right center just beyond the glove of Jaime Clark. Lisa Iancin followed immediately with a single to score the run. The Bandits tied it in the third on a solo home run, the first of the year by Aileen Morales.
Walks hurt both pitchers in the fifth as each team tallied twice, the Riptide with no hits as a result of three walks, a hit batsman and an error. With bases loaded Adix relieved Sallinger to get Lisa Iancin out to prevent further damage.
The Bandits scored as a result of two walks and singles by Laura Harms, Kristie Fox and Nicole Trimboli. The Riptide finally came through with the winning run in the ninth, only their third hit of the game and their first since the third inning.

The Riptide head west for an eight game road trip before returning to Lowell to conclude their regular season with a series against the Washington Glory.
