Coaches from each of the eight NPF teams will be on hand searching for the best fastpitch talent to fill open spots in their rosters.

“Our coaches will be looking for players who possess the combination of speed, power and athleticism needed to compete at the professional level,” NPF President Richard Levine said. “This is an excellent opportunity for amateur players to showcase their fastpitch softball abilities.”

The tryout will be held in conjunction with the 2003 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Convention, which runs from Wednesday, Dec. 3 – Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Del Lago Resort, in Montgomery, Texas. The NFCA Convention will also host the 2003 NPF Senior and Rookie Draft on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. CT.

All interested women’s fastpitch players who have completed their collegiate softball eligibility are invited to participate in the tryout. Several years of fastpitch softball experience are recommended. Players should be prepared to demonstrate a wide variety of skills including, but not limited to, hitting, fielding and base-running. All equipment, with the exception of a personal glove, cleats and catcher’s gear, will be provided. All registration materials, including the $60 pre-registration fee, must be received in the NPF office no later than Monday, Dec. 1. After the Dec. 1 deadline all registrations must be made on-site. The on-site registration fee is $75.

While participants must be at least 21 years of age (no later than 5/1/04), the league strongly encourages the completion of one’s college education prior to engaging in a pro tryout. Current NCAA athletes who participate in a professional tryout, whether or not successful, risk the loss of amateur status and the loss of current or future collegiate softball scholarship opportunity.

NPF athletes are gifted players who possess great softball skills and present a resume of outstanding softball accomplishments, including but not limited to, Collegiate All-American, conference MVP, NCAA statistical leader, national or Olympic team experience or consistent participation in the Women’s College World Series.

Most NPF players have the educational background to pursue other careers after their playing days are over and in the off-season. That education also allows for a certain level of sophistication and judgement that serves them well in negotiating endorsement deals, interacting with fans and dealing with the media.

To find additional information about NPF players, the game, the season, spectators & media, team staff, etc. visit the FAQ section of the NPF website.

The NPF is the world’s premier professional fastpitch softball league for women. The organization was created in 1997 to provide elite female athletes with the opportunity to compete professionaly, while providing affordably-priced entertainment for families and sports fans around the globe. The NPF will consist of eight teams located in eight markets throughout the country.
