The National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF) Championship Series will begin on Thursday, August 16 at The Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, IL. This year’s Championship is a best-of-five series between the USSSA Pride and the Chicago Bandits, the top two finishers in the league, following a 120 game 2018 regular season schedule.
USSSA Pride enters the Championship after winning their 7th regular season title with an overall record of 42-5 on the season. The Chicago Bandits finished second with an overall record of 37-10. USSSA and Chicago will be seeking to raise their 4th and 5th Cowles Cups respectively, by winning this year’s Championship.
The two teams, steeped in professional softball historical success in the NPF, faced each other 12 times this season, with the Pride coming out on top with an 8-4 record. Making the Championship Series interesting is the fact that Chicago took two of three games from the Pride in a 3 game final regular season series, which took place last weekend.
The 2018 Championship Series will have complete live stream coverage of every pitch featured on ESPN+, with all the action being delivered from the booth by the NPF veteran broadcast team of Eric Collins and Barb Jordan. In addition to the live game action, ESPN+ will also carry a 30-minute pre-game show, hosted for the second year by Chuckie Kempf.
Fans can also follow along with Championship Series action on all social media platforms or “Live Stats” on profastpitch.com.
The Championship Series week will lead off on Wednesday with a Championship Dinner for the two participating teams, league sponsors, partners, and suppliers, and special guests. The annual awards, including the Park Planet Player of the Year and the Rawlings Gold Glove Award will be announced at that time.
Prior to games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the NPF will host a special fan experience, Championship Tailgate. The Tailgate will begin 3 hours prior to the start of each game and will feature prize giveaways, vendor booths, games, featured player autographs, and a live band.
Following a USA Softball gold medal finish that qualified Team USA for the 2020 Olympics, both NPF rosters will be completed by all national team players returning from Chiba, Japan, in time for the opening pitch.
