Mankato, Minn. (Feb. 13, 2019)– The Aussie Peppers of MN and Chicago Bandits agreed on terms for a trade that will return Coley Ries to Mankato as a member of the inaugural Aussie Peppers professional softball team competing in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) League in 2019.
Ries enters her third season in the NPF, spending her first season with the Texas Charge after being picked up as a free agent. Chicago added the Mankato native to their roster in 2018. While at Chicago, Ries went 6-0 with 1 save. Ironically, a defensive play made while pitching for Chicago in a series hosted in Mankato last year, earned Ries the 805 Stats, Play of the Year Award in 2018.
“This is a really special trade for us and one we really wanted to lock down for the team and fans in Minnesota,” commented Aussie Peppers General Manager, Matt Mangulis. “Coley is arguably one of the best pitchers ever to come out of Minnesota. Having Coley back in Mankato will add strength and professional experience to our starting pitching rotation. She’s a hometown kid, and NCAA Champion. She’s our first player signed, and we couldn’t be happier.”
“I am so excited for this next step in my softball journey. I feel so fortunate to be able to help grow the game not only in the state of Minnesota, but internationally, in Australia.” said Ries. “I truly never could have imagined a day where I’d be able to be based in my hometown of Mankato, as a professional athlete.”
The Aussie Peppers will lead off action in the 2019 season at their home field of Caswell Park, with a series against the Beijing Shougang Eagles. The Aussie Peppers will play a total of 23 games at Caswell Park North Mankato in 2019. Tickets will be available soon and can be purchased at pepperspro.com
Aussie Peppers of Minnesota is a partnership between Softball Australia and the softball organization known as the Mankato Peppers. The team will be one of six that will compete in the National Pro Fastpitch league during 2019.
