CLEVELAND COMETS SIGN NPF VETERAN JADE RHODES

,

CLEVELAND, OH (May 26, 2018)–The Cleveland Comets added a veteran first baseman to their roster with the signing of former Auburn University standout Jade Rhodes, who signed a two-year deal with the club earlier this week.

“Jade is an exceptional first baseman with power,” said Comets general manager Stephen Dunn. “As a right-handed hitter, she brings a great balance to our lineup. Her ability to drive the ball deep into the gaps will bring a lot of runners home for us.”

A four-year starter at Auburn, Rhodes completed her college career with a .276 batting average, 46 home runs and 179 runs batted in. As a senior, she earned NFCA Third Team All-America honors and also was named Second Team All-Southeastern Conference. Rhodes also posted a .991 career fielding percentage with just 12 errors in 1,361 chances.

In 2016, the 5-foot-9 Rhodes set a school record with five hits in a single game.

Following the 2016 College World Series, Rhodes signed with the National Professional Fastpitch League’s Pennsylvania Rebellion and later that summer signed a two-year deal with the Scrap Yard Dawgs.

Rhodes, the daughter of former Major League Baseball player Arthur Rhodes, whose 21-year career was highlighted by winning the 2011 World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals, played in 33 games during her first two professional seasons. She has a career batting average of .230 with two home runs and 10 RBI. In the field, Rhodes remains perfect with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

After playing just 11 games with the Scrap Yard Dawgs in 2017, Rhodes is eager to fill a position of need in Cleveland and looking forward to her opportunity with the Comets.

“Keep believing that you can and you will,” said Rhodes, a native of Sarasota, Fla. “My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Don’t ever give up on something your heart is invested on.”
