Elgin – The count was 2-1 and Mindy Cowles was on second with one out when Bandits’ (9-7) leftfielder Laura Harms launched a blast, deep over the left field wall for a two-run homerun – her first career homerun – extending the Bandits lead to 3-0 over the Venezuelan Olympic team in game four of the four game series.

Kristina Thorson (2-4) earned her second straight victory of the season while throwing seven innings of work with no walks, eight strikeouts and only two hits.

The Bandits kicked off the scoring, earlier in the bottom of the second – with no outs and Nicole Trimboli on second – when Bandits’ rookie Mindy Cowles sent a screamer to deep centerfield. The ball carried back, deep to centerfield, almost clearing the fence before it was knocked down in play by Venezuela’s Yaicey Sojo, allowing Cowles to reach second and Trimboli to score for a 1-0 lead.

Bases were juiced with one out on the board in the bottom of the third for the Bandits’ when Mindy Cowles earned an RBI in the easiest way – a walk that brought in Samantha Findlay to put the score at 4-0.

One batter later, Aileen Morales sent a liner over the head of Venezuela’s Denisse Fuenmayor to bring around Rachel Folden and Jaime Clark, putting the score to 6-0, still with one out in the third.

For the third inning in a row, the Bandits jumped on the score board again in the bottom half of the fourth when Jaime Clark sent a line-drive two-run double to right field, scoring both Folden and Schutzler. The hit by Clark was the seventh for the Bandits, giving them an 8-0 lead in the fourth.

The next batter, Nicole Trimboli put the Bandits up 9-0 with a single to right field, scoring Clark.

The first hit of the game for Venezuela came in the top of the seventh when Jineth Pimentel sent a liner up the middle – just out of the reach of Thorson’s glove – breaking up the six inning no-hitter by Thorson.
