ROSEMONT, IL (February 25, 2020) – The Chicago Bandits have signed pitching coach Chanda Bell for the 2020 NPF season, team officials announced Monday afternoon.

The Indianapolis native played a record-breaking career at the University of Kentucky. At the end of her collegiate career, Bell left as the all-time winningest pitcher and was the first in team history to throw four straight 200-plus strikeout seasons. Sitting at the top of the Kentucky record books with 910 Ks, Bell was the first Wildcat to throw a no-hitter, as well as the first to toss a perfect game. She owns three of the top four single-season strikeout marks.

“Chanda has an incredible eye for the game and we can’t wait to have her on our bench to help these women reach their full potential,” Bandits AGM Jourdan Skirha said. “Her experience and success gives us the edge that makes us capable of another incredible season. We can’t wait to get to work.”

Bell was named to the pitching staff for Indiana University in 2017. In 2019, Bell and the Indiana coaching staff led the team to a 14-0 start, the best in program history, the best record since 2011 (36-21) and the best non-conference mark since 1986 (26-8). Because of this incredible start, Indiana earned its first ranking since 1996.

IU spent six straight weeks ranked, picking up wins against two top-10 teams in No. 6 Georgia (Feb. 10) and at No. 10 LSU (March 1), the first time that has been done at Indiana.

“I am very excited and honored to be joining the Chicago Bandits. It is a great opportunity to join Lauren and the culture she has cultivated in an already storied and successful organization,” Bell said in a statement. “I am proud to be back in the NPF and look forward to working with some of the best pitchers in the world.”

Bell will join the defending League Champion Bandits as they return to Parkway Bank Sports Complex when they open their season on June 10 against the California Commotion. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit chicagobandits.com or call the ticket office at 877-722-6348.
