ROSEMONT, Ill. (January 7, 2020) – Two-time NPF Champion and 2018 Player of the Year Brenna Moss has announced her retirement from professional softball.
“Brenna was a key part of our success and has been since she became a Bandit,” General Manager Toni Calmeyn said. “She truly loves this organization and its fans, and we know she’ll be missed by everyone, ourselves included. We wish her the best in her future.”
Moss was selected 13th overall in the third round of the 2015 NPF Draft. The Fresno State alum made an immediate impact, contributing to the Bandits’ third and fourth Cowles Cup Championships in her rookie and sophomore seasons.
“[Chicago has] been my home for the last five summers but now it is time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life,” Moss said. “The years I spent with the Bandits have been nothing short of amazing and will forever be some of my favorite memories. The game has given me more than just wins and losses, it has given me the best memories and friendships I could ever ask for.”
After a historic 2018 season during which she collected a league-tying best 65 hits, Moss captured the Park Planet Player of the Year award, Offensive Player of the Year and the Stolen Bases Award.
Behind the plate, she ends her career with 183 hits, 58 RBI, and 27 stolen bases good for a batting average of .307, slugging percentage of .390, and a .350 on-base percentage. On the field, she was a force to be reckoned with, completing 263 put-outs and earning a fielding percentage of .975.
“Thank you to every single teammate that has crossed my path. Whether it was for a few weeks or a few years, you were the ones that kept me going, that made me feel like a kid again out on the field,” Moss said. “That feeling is the reason I have played the game for so long, and I could never repay any of you for giving me that, so thank you.”
Off the field, Moss never failed to show her loyalty to the Bandits and their fans. During the 2017 off-season, Moss stayed in Chicago and worked with the Bandits Front Office while dedicating her off season to her training. She continues to be dedicated to finding strength through adversity and growing the game.
“Thank you to every coach that has pushed me to my limits and not only made me the best player out on the field but that has helped shaped me into the person I am off the field, because to me, that is the greatest gift of all.”
A note from Brenna:
“THANK YOU Chicago Bandits, for bringing me on board and allowing me to play for the best team in the country. It’s the behind the scenes stuff (that no one else sees) that makes this team so incredible. Our staff is second to none in making this the most professional experience and working their tails off to give women a life in professional sports. For that, I am forever grateful and will always be in your corner because I know you are in mine. You will be missed but never forgotten because you have a very special place in my heart. Thank you again.
I’ll see you around, Chicago
Brenna Moss #55”
