NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2019) – Jessica Burroughs signed an NPF On Player Ad Location (OPAL) agreement with BreakThrew Fastpitch that will put the training school brand on Burrough’s forearm sleeve for the duration of the 2019 season.
Burroughs, the first overall pick of the 2017 NPF College Draft, by the USSSA Pride, graduated from Florida State, where she was a standout performer as a two-time All American, and the back to back ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2016 and 2017. In just her second season as a pro, Burroughs posted a minuscule 0.35 ERA in 60 innings pitched, a performance that earned her a place on the All NPF Team in a season that saw her USSSA Pride win both the regular season and the Championship Series.
“This partnership is huge for softball and is giving opportunities to the players as well as different levels of businesses to be a part of our League,” commented Burroughs. “I am so honored to represent BreakThrew Fastpitch and excited to see where this opportunity can lead in the 2019 season as well as the future of our sport!”
The partnership marks the second OPAL for BreakThrew Fastpitch. The Iowa and Tennessee based training school that focuses on teaching pitchers of all ages, was first out of the gates in the OPAL program, contracting Iowa native and Chicago Bandits pitcher, Paige Lowary. Lowary, like Burroughs, was a number one draft pick in the NPF College Draft, graduating in 2018 from Oklahoma.
“I’m so thrilled to add Jessica Burroughs to the BreakThrew Fastpitch family through our OPAL partnership,” said BreakThrew owner, Myndie Berka. “Along with being an exceptional pitcher and competitor, Jessica’s passion for the game and growing it for the next generation, makes her a perfect fit to connect with the pitchers in my training programs. This OPAL partnership creates an incredible opportunity for young girls to meet, watch and learn from the best in the game. The more they are mentored by successful, passionate, strong women, the better their chances of following in their footsteps. I couldn’t be more excited to have both Jessica and Paige represent all of us in the BreakThrew Fastpitch family on the field this summer!”
The OPAL program was launched by the league in December and designed specifically to subsidize player salaries with at least 90% of the revenue paid directly to the athletes themselves. The OPAL program clears the way for individuals and companies to directly support the efforts of players to continue their professional careers.
Burroughs’ USSSA Pride team will take the field for opening day on June 6th at Rent One Park visiting the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois.
