CHANTILLY, VA – Courtney Bures (Haymarket, VA) slugged the eventual game-winning home run as the Washington Glory defeated the Chinese Taipei National Team, 4-2 Wednesday night at the Westfield Softball Complex.
Bures connected on her league leading sixth home run in the fourth of Wu Chia Yen (1-2), who took the loss for Chinese Taipei.
Washington would add another run in the fourth to extend the lead to 2-0 on an RBI single by Callie Piper.
Callista Balko and Nicole Barber also drove in runs in the fifth as Washington jumped to a 4-0 lead.
Desiree Serrano received the win in relief of starting pitcher Taryne Mowatt, but ran into some trouble in the seventh before being replaced by Lisa Ferguson. Serrano worked 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking three. Ferguson recorded the final out of the game to receive her first career save.
Washington and Chinese Taipei square off in the final game of a four game series Thursday night in a 7:05 pm start at the Westfield Softball Complex.
