ROSEMONT, III. – The Chicago Bandits sign a 1-year contract with right-handed pitcher and utility player, Savannah Heebner, team officials announced Friday morning.
The University of Houston player was the 24th overall pick in the fifth and final round of the 2019 NPF Draft.
“We are very excited to have signed Savannah,” Bandits head coach Lauren Lappin said. “She was a consistent performer for her Houston program both in the circle and at the plate throughout her career. She has the ability to keep the ball in the park which is extremely valuable at this level and we can’t wait to see what she does in orange and black.”
Heebner received numerous honors over the years, including American Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year (2018), AAC First Team honors three times (2016, 2017, 2018), National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region First Team (2017) and NFCA All-America Second Team (2018).
“This is an amazing opportunity for Savannah to continue her playing career. She’s an extremely good athlete who can contribute to the roster, whether she is pitching or in the lineup. I’m really proud of her,” said Houston’s head coach Kristin Vesely.
The Colorado native is currently sporting a minuscule of 1.76 ERA as Houston’s most used pitcher throughout her career. Heebner currently leads the team with most innings pitched this season with 16 complete games and 84 strikeouts and ranks second in program history with 60 career wins and 26 shutouts, as well as third with a 1.93 career ERA. Showcasing her talent as both a pitcher and a hitter, she also put down six doubles and 15 RBI at the plate this year.
Heebner and the Cougars ended their season after a tough loss against Texas on Sunday (May 19) in the Regional Final of the NCAA Austin Regional. Houston concludes their season with a 39-19 record, which is the most wins since 2013.
The four-time Cowles Cup champion Chicago Bandits will be back at Parkway Bank Sports Complex for the 2019 season. For more information about the Chicago Bandits or to reserve your season tickets, please visit chicagobandits.com or call the box office at 877-722-6348.
