ROSEMONT, III. – The Chicago Bandits sign another University of Kentucky infielder, Katie Reed for a 1-year contract, team officials announced on Saturday morning.
The senior shortstop was the No. 19 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2019 NPF Draft. Reed sported a .367 batting average during her last season as a Wildcat. Back in March, Reed tied UK record with six RBI’s in a single game.
“Katie is going to bring a lot to the table, on and off the field as she was a stellar student-athlete,” Bandits assistant general manager Jourdan Skirha said. “She was a standout player for the Wildcats on both sides of the ball and I am excited to see what she can bring to the Bandits.”
In 2017, Reed became the second NCFA All-American in program history, earning third-team honors, and also was selected to the All-SEC First Team. In 2018, she was chosen to be a part of the All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Defensive Team as well as being named 2018 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The St. Louis native received other honors including the 2016 SEC All-Freshman Team, 2017 NFCA All-Southeast District Team, and 2019 SEC All-Preseason Team. Reed started her career on an 18-game hitting streak, breaking Kentucky’s school record of 15-game hitting streak set in 2013. Reed finished second in the SEC in batting average for league games only (.380) back in 2017.
Kentucky’s season ended during the 2019 NCAA Seattle Super Regional (April 26) against the Washington Huskies 5-0. The Wildcats finished the season 36-24.
The four-time Cowles Cup champion Chicago Bandits will be back at Parkway Bank Sports Complex for the 2019 season. For more information about the Chicago Bandits or to reserve your season tickets, please visit chicagobandits.com or call the box office at 877-722-6348.
