ROSEMONT, III. – The Chicago Bandits have signed 2019 NPF Draft second-round pick Caleigh Clifton to a one-year contract, team officials announced Tuesday morning.
The University of Oklahoma infielder put up impressive numbers throughout the 2018-19 season, earning a nomination for the 2019 Honda Sports Award. She achieved season-high numbers in her senior campaign for batting average (.390), home runs (17) and RBI (52).
“Adding a defensively-sound player like Caleigh is a move in the right direction for this season and this ball club,” Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. “We can’t wait to see what she does for the Bandits this summer.”
Clifton, an Oklahoma native, is no stranger to success. Her slugging percentage ranks third nationally. She also ranks fourth nationally in runs per game at 1.2 per contest and sixth in on-base percentage.
She ranks fourth in OU history in on-base percentage (.505), seventh in walks (118), ninth in stolen bases (46) and tenth in runs (165). Through her career at OU, she was selected as a 2017 NFCA Second-Team All-American, 2016 and 2017 First Team All-Region selection and 2018 Second Team selection.
Clifton and the Sooners made themselves known in the Women’s College World Series, stretching the Final Series against UCLA to three games before being eliminated in the final game.
The four-time Cowles Cup champion Chicago Bandits are back at Parkway Bank Sports Complex for the 2019 season. For more information about the Chicago Bandits or to reserve your season tickets, please visit chicagobandits.com or call the box office at 877-722-6348.
