ROSEMONT, IL (September 5, 2018) — Chicago Bandits standout southpaw Haylie Wagner has been named a graduate manager at the University of Michigan, Wolverines head coach Carol Hutchins announced Tuesday afternoon.
Wagner, owner of a team-high 17 victories in the circle over the past two years, will return to Ann Arbor, Michigan, after the former All-American completed her fourth season at the professional level. Wagner earned a pair of All-America honors with the Wolverines in 2014-15 and captured the Big Ten Conference’s Pitcher of the Year award in 2012.
“We’re thrilled to bring back Haylie,” Hutchins said. “She had a great career for us. She’s taking a step toward the coaching ranks with this position and she will again be an integral part of our program.”
Wagner, a product of Orange, California, boasted a 100-18 career record during her tenure with Michigan and helped guide the maize-and-blue to the 2015 Women’s College World Series championship matchup. The four-time All-Big Ten honoree posted a shutout of No. 1 Florida in Game 2 of the championship series.
“Haylie’s been an outstanding model for the game of softball both on and off the field,” Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. “She’s a driven individual and we’re encouraged by this opportunity for her to return to her alma mater in a coaching capacity.”
Wagner began her NPF career with the Pennsylvania Rebellion after she signed as an undrafted free agent before the start of the 2015 campaign. The left-hander made 41 starts for the Rebellion, including 10 starts, and ranked as one of the team’s most-utilized arms. Wagner joined the Bandits as a free agent Jan. 30, 2017, and proceeded to sign a two-year extension through the 2019 season Oct. 2, 2017.
The four-time champion Chicago Bandits will be back at Parkway Bank Sports Complex for the 2019 season. For more information about the Chicago Bandits or to reserve season tickets, please visit chicagobandits.com or call the box office at 877-722-6348.
