Riptide Rolls in First National Pro Fastpitch Championship Game

Kimberly, Wisconsin – The New England Riptide got on the back of starting pitcher Eileen Canney to defeat the Akron Racers in this morning’s first round National Pro Fastpitch Championship game. Canney pitched a one hit shutout facing only 26 batters striking out six from the Racers. The Racers single hit came in the 5th inning when Jenn Poore lined to left field.

New England scored two runs in the fourth when Shanel Scott led off with a single against Akron’s pitcher Alicia Hollowell. Jackie Pasquerella sacrificed Scott to second. Lyndsey Angus singled up the middle to score Scott and took second on the throw home. Angus scored on Alex Sutton single.

New England tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh behind three consecutive singles followed by a pass ball.

In total, the New England Riptide finished with 9 hits.

The Riptide will face the regular season National Pro Fastpitch league champions Washington Glory at approximately 7:15 Central Standard time. The Glory defeated the Rockford Thunder 4-0 in their first round match up.
