Washington Takes Series Finale from Thunder

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Washington Glory knocked off the Rockford Thunder by a final score of 4-2 on Sunday afternoon to earn a split of the four-game series.

The game started out like it was going to be a battle of hitting as each team put two runs on the board in the first. Catalina Morris hit a leadoff homerun in the first inning to give Washington the lead, while Mackenzie Vandergeest hit a homerun of her own in the inning to tie the score.

The score would be tied at 2-2 until the top of the sixth inning. That’s when Oli Keohohou stepped up to the plate. She blasted a Serena Settlemier pitch into leftfield for a two-run homerun. The homerun put the Glory up 4-2 and that’s where the score ended.

Rockford managed just four hits in the game, while Washington collected nine off of Settlemier. Settlemier fell to 9-4 on the season and Washington pitcher Desiree Serrano improved her record to 12-3.

The loss dropped the Thunder to 21-11 this season and into third place in the league standings behind both Akron and Washington. Washington improved to 21-7 on the year.

The Thunder will be back in action this Wednesday night when they travel to Michigan to take on the Ice. Game time is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT.
