Rockford Wins Third Straight; First to 20 Wins

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford Thunder (20-9) defeated the Washington Glory (19-6), 1-0 on Thursday night. Serena Settlemier improved to 9-3 on the season as she pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout on the night. Settlemier helped her own cause with a double in three plate appearances.

The lone run of the night came in the fourth as Settlemier led off the inning with a double. Noelle Adams was then brought into the game to pinch run for the pitcher and later advanced to third on a passed ball. With one out, the Thunder played small ball as Lindsay Gardner laid down the successful suicide squeeze bunt to score Adams. Gardner was thrown out on the play at first.

The Glory had trouble solving Settlemier all night, as they could not advance a runner into scoring position.

Oli Keohohou had two of the four hits, while Amber Jackson and Nichole Thompson recorded the others.

Sarah Pauly (9-3) pitched well in the loss, going a full six innings of work, allowing one run on six hits while striking out four.

The same two clubs will meet tomorrow night for game two of the four game series with the Glory. First pitch at Sportscore One is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Fans unable to attend the game can listen live on the Thunder website.
