Chicago Beat China 8-0 in Series Opener

LISLE, Ill. - The Comcast Chicago Bandits and the Chinese National team kicked off their first game of a four game series tonight at the Benedictine Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill. Gina Oaks (3-3) started in the circle for the Bandits as Wang Lan took the mound for China.

The orange and black came out in full force tonight scoring four runs in the first inning. Lead off hitter, Stacy May looped a single just past second. Lindsay Schutzler followed with a line drive single up the middle. Kristie Fox kept the ball rolling with an infield single to second base. With the bases loaded, Jaime Clark stepped up and hammered her first grand slam of the season to clear the bases.

By just the second inning, the Bandits had nine hits under their belt. May continued to contribute to the hit count with her second single of the night. She also picked up her third stolen base of the season. Schutzler singled to the pitcher, advancing May to third. Fox cranked a two RBI triple to right, scoring both May and Schutzler. Gina Oaks knocked Fox in with a blooper to the pitcher, upping the score 7-0.

May’s bat remained hot into the fourth as she rocked a long ball over the leftfield fence, giving the Bandits their eighth and final run of the night.

Solid pitching by Oaks and Amy Harre kept China’s bats at bay allowing only four hits total all game. The Bandits on the other hand accumulated a whopping 13 hits on the night.

The two teams will continue game two of the series tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
