ROCKFORD, Ill. The Rockford Thunder of National Pro Fastpitch knocked off the visiting Mid-Michigan Ice at Sportscore One on Friday night by a final score of 4-0.
Kristen Zaleski got the offense started for the Thunder in the top of the first inning when she led off with a homerun to centerfield. The homerun for Zaleski was her second of the four-game series with the Ice and her second of the season.
Rockford (17-7) would add another run in the bottom of the first when Lindsay Gardner bounced into a fielders choice scoring Audrey Rendon who had singled earlier in the inning.
The Thunder would push across single runs in the second and fifth innings to push the lead to 4-0, where it would remain for the duration of the game.
Zaleski, Rendon and Jackie Wong, who hit ninth in the game, combined to go 9-for-11 in the game. Rendon and Wong were each perfect on the night to improve their season averages to .308 and .400, respectively.
With Serena Settlemier in the circle for the Thunder, the team only needed to give her one run of support. Settlemier, who improved to 7-2 on the season, was in control all night long. The second-year professional out of Kansas allowed just three hits in the game and struck out eight. She did not allow an earned run in the game and has not allowed an earned run in her last 35 innings pitch to drop her league-best ERA to 0.88.
The Thunder will return back to Sportscore One on Thursday night, July 5, 2007, when the Chicago Bandits visit Rockford. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and Serena Settlemier is scheduled to start in the circle for the Thunder.
