CANADA TAKES GAME TWO FROM THUNDER 5-2

Sheena Lawrick drove in three runs and hit her second home run of the series on Thursday night as Team Canada defeated the Texas Thunder 5-2 at Big League Dreams in League City to take the first two games of the series.

Lawrick's first big blow came in the third inning with her team trailing 2-0. She sent a Serena Settlemier pitch to deep right field to tie the game. The long ball was her second of the series with the Thunder. She drove in the decisive third run in the top of the fifth with a line drive single to right field.

Canada would tack on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 5-2.

In the series, Lawrick is 4-for-7 with seven RBIs and two home runs. She has also scored two runs for Team Canada in the first two games of the series.

The Thunder's (17-25) offense was held to just two hits for the second consecutive game and for the second straight game they came in consecutive at-bats. Both runners would be stranded on base as Settlemier flew out to the fence in left field. The only other real threat came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Clare Burnum was hit by a pitch to start things off and that was followed by a walk to Danyele Gomez, but the runners would not score as Karrie Rider, Rocky Spencer and Nina Lindenberg all struck out to end the game.

Robin Mackin started in the circle for Canada and she was wildly effective in six-plus innings of work. She surrendered just two hits in the game, but she did walk seven, giving the Thunder plenty of opportunities to get on the board. Both of the runs Texas scored on the night were unearned. Kristen Zaleski scored both runs in the contest after mistakes by the Canada defense kept the inning going. Danielle Lawrie relieved Mackin in the seventh to record the save.

Settlemier took the loss in the circle to fall to 3-7 on the season. She went the distance for Texas allowing all five runs (four earned) and nine hits. She also struck out five in the game.
