Bandits Break Losing Streak, Beat World University Team 3-2

Game Box Score

Lisle, Ill. – The Bandits broke their three game losing streak tonight by defeating the World University Team 3-2.

The Bandits wasted no time scoring by putting their first two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The Bandits had two down when Stacy May stepped into box. She knocked a blooper into shallow right. Nicole Trimboli followed by hitting it in the same spot as May. May advanced all the way to third on the play. Trimboli took advantage of the first and third situation and made a break for second. She beat out the throw and May scampered home to give the Bandits their first run of the night. Trena Peel kept the Bandits rolling by smacking a double into left, bringing Trimboli home.

Solid pitching by Gina Oaks and stellar defense kept the dangerous World University Team bats at bay for the first four innings of the game. The Bandits rallied the bats in the bottom of the fifth inning. Steffan led off with a bunt to the third base side and using the speed that she is known for beat out the throw to first. Jaime Clark took a ball to the elbow and advanced to first. Team USA pitcher, Katie Burkhart, threw a wild pitch, enabling Steffan to advance to third and Clark to advance to second. Selena Collins hit a mile high sacrifice fly, giving Steffan enough time to tag up and make it safely to home.

In the top of the seventh, Team USA showed that they wouldn’t go down without a fight. Samantha Findlay rocketed a shot to right center and made it safely to second due to a Bandit fielding error. Kaitlin Cochran tried to make it the second night in a row for the Bandits to lose on a two homerun in the seventh inning, by drilling one over the centerfield fence.

Up until that point, Bandit starting pitcher, Gina Oaks had thrown almost a perfect game. Team USA failed to bring in anymore runs and the Bandits happily took the win for the night.

This win brings the Bandits’ record to 23-6 on the season. The Bandits will try to pick up another win and split the four game series with the World University Team tomorrow at 3:05 pm.
