ROSEMONT, Ill. (July 26, 2017) – The Chicago Bandits cruised to a win over the Scrap Yard Dawgs behind a brilliant outing from Kaia Parnaby and a steady offensive attack on Wednesday night at The Ballpark at Rosemont.
Parnaby, who earned her second win of the season, remained in control from start to finish, allowing only one run on four hits. She struck out seven in a complete game effort as the Bandits claimed the series finale 8-1.
The lone Scrap Yard run came in the second inning when Allexis Bennett drove in Hannah Flippen with an RBI-single.
“Sahvanna (Jaquish) and I were on the same page,” Parnaby said of her battery. “We didn’t just throw the same – we just kept coming back with diferent things.”
The Bandits quickly responded to the Dawgs’ early run, tying the game in the bottom of the second as Danielle Zymkowitz laced a liner to left for a sacrifice fly, bringing home Natalie Hernandez.
Chicago added four more runs in the third to go up 5-1, highlighted by an RBI-double off the bat of Hernandez, who collected a pair of hits on the night.
Sahvanna Jaquish later unleashed a three-run double off the right-center wall to make it 8-1. The score held for the remainder of the game as Parnaby continued to cruise through the opposing lineup.
The win allowed Chicago to avoid the series sweep against the Dawgs after the Bandits dropped both games of a Tuesday doubleheader.
“We talked about it, we had a meeting and we all decided that the team of the first two games was not our team,” Bandits head coach Sharonda McDonald said. “That’s not the team that we want to represent the Bandits, so we decided we were going to do better and we did better.”
Chicago returns to action on Tuesday as the Bandits play host the Beijing Shougang Eagles and Scrap Yard Dawgs in a split home series. First pitch against the Eagles is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday at The Ballpark at Rosemont. The game will be broadcast on NPF TV.
