SAN MARCOS, TX (July 23, 2017) — After cruising to a 6-0 win over Beijing, the Texas Charge was looking to build a winning streak with a pair of victories in Sunday’s doubleheader.
The Charge had to settle for a split. The Charge powered its way to a 9-1 win in the opener, but Beijing came back in game two to register a 2-1 victory.
In the opener, Emily Vincent tossed a three-hitter, while the offense got a big part of its spark from Missy Taukeiaho, who had two RBIs, and Koral Costa, who helped out with a home run.
The Charge received a strong outing in the second game from Jill Compton and Coley Ries, who combined for a four-hitter.
However, Beijing pitcher Wang Lan also tossed a four-hitter and showed nifty work of overcoming five errors.
Beijing gained a 2-0 advantage in the third. Xu Qian Wen and Zhao Jing singled. A hit batsman loaded the bases before an error brought home two runs.
The Charge cut the deficit in half in the fourth when Nadia Taylor singled and eventually scored on two errors.
Despite staging threats in the sixth and seventh innings, the Charge was unable to strike again.
The Charge and Beijing resume their series with games Tuesday and Wednesday.
