In the circle, Wang Lan (0-7) had an outstanding performance, striking out six in seven innings pitched while only allotting five hits on one run.
Offensively, Beijing collected five hits overall, two of which came from center fielder Chen Jia. Fellow teammate Liu Li Li ended the game with a 2-for-3 performance, while Xi Kai Lin went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Striking first, the Texas based lineup clawed one run in the first when designated-player Lauren Haeger drove a single to through the left side to bring home Taylor Gasbois, putting Texas ahead 1-0.
After a scoreless frame in the second, Li Li brought the Shougang on base with a single to third, but later advanced to second by fellow teammate Ying. Quickly closing the inning, the Charge left Li Li hanging at second headed into the bottom of the fourth.
Due to quick 1-2-3 frames in the fourth and fifth, Texas placed a runner at third in the top of the sixth, but a flawless exchange of throws between catcher Kai Lin and second baseman Zhao Jing allowed the Eagles to capture a double play to blank the offensive frame for the Charge.
Entering the last offensive half with a one-run deficit, Kai Lin brought the Eagles on base once more with a single up the middle, but the Shougang lineup could not clinch any other hits off Escobedo and eventually fell, 1-0.
Returning to the turf tomorrow night, Beijing sets for a contest against the Texas Charge starting at 5:05 p.m. ET!
