CONROE, TX (September 20th, 2016)
General Manager Connie May announced today that the Scrap Yard Dawgs and the Dallas Charge have completed trade negotiations for left handed pitchers Morgan Melloh and Cheridan Hawkins in exchange for Dawgs outfielder Breja’e Washington and a 2018 Draft Pick

“Melloh and Hawkins will bring depth and experience to our pitching staff that we will need moving into the 2017 season,” said GM Connie May. “I was very proud of our pitching staff in 2016 and I think that this trade will make us even stronger in the circle.”

Morgan Melloh is a Fishers, Indiana native that graduated from Indiana University in 2011 and will be entering her 5th season in the NPF. In addition to her time in the National Pro Fastpitch League, Melloh has spent the last 4 years pitching in the Japan Softball League where she currently plays for Honda “Reverta.”

During her college career at both Fresno State and Indiana University, she held the Indiana school record and Big Ten Conference record for strikeouts in Big Ten games in a season. Her stellar senior year helped her earn Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. She also had 87 games with 10 plus strikeouts, including 27 in her senior year. She finished her career with 1,532 career strikeouts which is 9th on the NCAA Career Strikeout list.

Melloh has had the best two statistical seasons of her NPF career in 2015 and 2016 with the Dallas Charge where she amassed 129 strikeouts in 57 appearances. She pitched a total of 148.1 innings during regular season play and posted a 2.5 ERA in 2015 and a 3.04 ERA in 2016. Her performance in 2015 earned her the second best ERA on the team and was top in the top 10 in the NPF.

Joining Melloh on the Dawgs staff will be the Anderson, California native and former Oregon Duck Pitcher, Cheridan Hawkins. This collegiate standout just completed her rookie season in the NPF while also splitting time with the Women’s National Team on the international scene. During her rookie campaign with the Charge, she pitched 41 innings, notched 19 strike outs and posted a 5.98 ERA.

During her college career she was named to the NFCA All-America Team three separate times (2014-2016) as well as helped lead the Oregon Ducks to the Women’s College World Series in both 2014 and 2015. She also holds six school records at Oregon including single-game strikeouts with 18, single-season strikeouts with 330, career strikeouts with 1,801, career wins with 108, career shutouts with 33, and career no-hitters with 7 which also includes one perfect game.
