Washington, PA (July 11, 2011) - After a long, nine-game road trip, the Pennsylvania Rebellion returned home to the friendly confines of Consol Energy Park in Washington, PA, this evening for a matchup with the visiting Akron Racers. It was a tight, defensive battle that was ultimately won by the Akron Racers by the final score of 2-0.
Racers Center Fielder Taylor Schlopy wasted no time getting the scoring started. She smacked the third pitch of the game over the left field fence. It was her 6th home run of the season and it had Akron out to an early 1-0 lead.
The Rebellion had a chance to answer back quickly after Second Baseman Kayla Winkfield led off the bottom half of the first by getting hit by the pitch. She advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt from Shortstop Chaley Brickey, but was stranded there when First Baseman Alisa Goler struck out and Right Fielder Lexie Elkins flew out to end the threat.
Akron Pitcher Jailyn Ford was nothing short of stellar this evening as she tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout. She did not allow a hit until the 6th when Designated Player Mandy Ogle got aboard on an infield single and finally got PA into the hit column. At one point in the game, Ford set down 15 straight Rebellion batters. For her strong performance, Ford earned Powerhandz Player of the Game honors.
Rebellion Pitcher Dallas Escobedo threw a great game, though a losing effort. She went all seven innings and gave up just a pair of runs on four hits while striking out five Racers.
The Pennsylvania Rebellion (11-19) and the Akron Racers (15-11) each will have the day off tomorrow and use it to travel to Maryland. These two teams meet again on Wednesday night for the first of two games from Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, home of the Delmarva Shore Birds. As always, you can catch all the action on NPFTV at profastpitch.com.
