In the top half of inning four, Lyndsey Klein delivered a lead-off single to center field, which was followed up by an infield single to Juggernaut first baseman Gina Oaks. Wilkerson then came to the plate and stroked what looked like a three-run homerun, but it was run down and caught by Akron right fielder Trena Peel. Klein tagged and came around to score the only run NY/NJ would need in the game.
Scott showed the reason why she finished first in the league with 15 wins, as she worked her way to a complete game three-hit shutout. The win improved her record to 15-8 on the season.
Amanda and younger sister Courtney seemed to be on the same page all night as the two worked together to record nine Racer strikeouts.
In the game, the Racers didnt get a runner to third base. Akron left four players on second base, including two on second base. Peel was the only player for Akron to finish with multiple hits, as she finished 2-for-3 on the season.
The Juggernaut scored their insurance run in the sixth inning by using the small ball. Wilkerson drew a lead-off walk and she was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by pinch-hitter Lisa Iancin. Left fielder Venus Taylor followed with an RBI single to score Wilkerson.
Lauren Bauer was the only player to finish with multiple hits for the Nauts. She finished 3-for4 on the night, including two infield singles.
The two teams will play the early game again tomorrow beginning at 6 p.m. EDT, with Nikki Myers expected to start on the mound for Racers against the Juggernauts Kaci Clark. Fans can catch the game live on www.npf.prosportsradio.com.
