WASHINGTON, PA. – July 28, 2015 - The Rebellion grabbed a two-run lead against Dallas Tuesday evening and never let go as PA defeated the Charge by a final score of 3-0 at CONSOL Energy Park. Emma Johnson tossed four scoreless innings en route to her third victory of the season, while Lauren Haeger suffered the loss.
For the first three innings of play, neither Johnson nor Haeger allowed any offensive momentum as both pitched substantially well. Johnson allowed just two hits and walked one to go with her one strikeout through four while Haeger retired nine-straight Rebellion batters before PA grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
The Rebellion’s breakout inning began when designated player Olivia Watkins ended Haeger’s perfect game bid with an infield single. Watkins later scored on a run-scoring groundout from catcher Kristyn Sandberg. PA scored once more later in the inning when second baseman Haruna Sakamoto plated on a pinch-hit RBI single from Mandy Ogle.
While the Rebellion pitchers worked efficiently, the tenacity was not lost in the defense. Shortstop Whitney Arion made a number of impressive stops that kept the Dallas batters at bay throughout the evening. Sakamoto and third baseman Brittney Lindley also had exciting exhibits of defense in the later innings.
PA added an insurance run in the sixth when Watkins, who led off the inning with her second infield single on the night, scored on a ground rule double from right fielder Alexa Peterson to take to score to 3-0. Rebellion reliever Haylie Wagner was able to retire the Charge in order in the final frame for her second save of the season and the Rebellion’s 10th victory of 2015.
The Rebellion will be back at CONSOL Energy Park in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29 when they host the Akron Racers at 10:35 a.m. For tickets, please visit the Rebellion front office, call 724-250-9555 or visit
