LITTLE FALLS, NJ – In their final home game of the season, the NY/NJ Juggernaut (32-21) lost their second game in a row to the first-place Texas Thunder (37-15) 5-1.

The Juggernaut struck first in the third inning when a two-out single by shortstop Lyndsey Klein scored third baseman Laura Harms to put them up 1-0. The singles by Harms and Klein in the third were the only hits that Texas starter Christa Williams (12-6) would allow, keeping the bases clear for the rest of the game. Williams pitched a complete game, giving up no earned runs on two hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.

But the Juggernaut’s one-run lead would not hold as the Thunder retaliated with three runs off Amanda Scott (13-7) the next inning. Designated player Ryan Realmuto singled to center with not outs, scoring second baseman Lindsay Gardner and tying the game at one. A line-drive double to right center by catcher Selena Collins then put Texas up 3-1 when Realmuto and centerfielder Kristen Zaleski crossed the plate. Realmuto finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Zaleski was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Scott pitched seven full innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.

Texas utilized their speed as well as their power when Gardner’s suicide squeeze bunt scored leftfielder Erin Evans in the fifth inning, putting them up 4-1. Evans led the inning off with a single.

Finishing off the game, pinch hitter Karrie Rider doubled to right field with two outs and then scored on a single by Zaleski to make it 5-1.

The Juggernaut now travel to California to take on the Sunbirds in a three-game series from August 12th to August 14th.
