LITTLE FALLS, NJ – In a battle for second place in the NPF, the Akron Racers (31-16) handily defeated the NY/NJ Juggernaut (30-17) 9-1. Prior to tonight’s game, the Racers and the Juggernaut were just one game behind the first-place Texas Thunder (30-14).

A three-run homerun in the seventh inning by catcher Jenn Poore highlighted Akron’s offensive performance on the night. Poore was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored on the night. Juggernaut pitcher Jen Smith made her first pitching appearance of the season when she relieved Kaci Clark in the seventh, but gave up three runs on Poore’s roundtripper, in just one inning pitched. Clark gave up no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings pitched.

Akron broke out against Naut’s starter Gina Oaks (10-7) with three runs in the second inning. Second baseman Brandi Stuart singled to left with two outs to score rightfielder Trena Peel and leftfielder Heather Wright, putting the Racers up 3-0. Wright began the scoring when she scored first baseman Nicole Trimboli with a basehit. Trimboli led off the inning with a single to center. Oaks took the loss for the Juggernaut, giving up four earned runs on six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.

Amanda Scott came in to pitch for Oaks with one out in the fourth after another RBI single by Stuart and an error by second baseman Carri Leto gave the Racers a 4-0 lead. Stuart was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. However, another error by Leto would allow two more Racers to score, stretching the lead to six.

The Juggernaut scored their lone run off of Akron starter Nikki Myers (9-4) in the sixth inning. Shortstop Lyndsey Klein singled home centerfielder Lauren Bauer to cut the Racer’s lead to 6-1. Bauer and Klein each finished 1-for-3 on the night. Myers pitched a complete game, giving up one run on three hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.
