Seven Game losing streak forg-OTTEN

TUCSON, Ariz. – A five-run second inning by the Arizona Heat gave Akron pitcher Radara McHugh her first loss of the season and ended a seven-game losing streak which dates back to July 5th.

Jodi Otten provided the fireworks for the Heat. After Arizona took a 1-0 lead with a Sara Pickering RBI single, Otten blasted an 0-1 pitch with the bases loaded, deep over the right field fence to give Arizona a 5-0 lead over the first-placed Racers.

“I went to a heavier bat and it worked out for me,” said Otten. “It was up about belt high and a little outside.”

Otten finished the game going 2 for 3 with four RBIs.

Erica Beach had a strong performance on the mound. She allowed three hits and one run while striking out one for the Heat.

“Winning at home is the biggest thing,” said Beach.

Akron would score a run in the top of the seventh to make it a 5-1 ballgame.

Arizona (11-24) and Akron (22-11) get it on again Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field.

Arizona also welcomes new pitcher Danielle Henderson from the Racers. She is expected to start on Wednesday against her former team.

“I was excited to come here,” said Henderson. “I just want to play and I’m excited they picked me up.”
