SIX-RUN FIRST DOES HEAT INLosing Streak Now at Seven

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Texas Thunder unloaded for six runs in the top of the first inning and later added three more to coast to a 9-0 victory over the Arizona Heat before 787 fans at Hi Corbett Field.

Lindsay Chouinard earned her fourth win for Texas in the complete game shutout, allowing four hits and struck out one Heat player.

Texas’ Kristen Zaleski began the game with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lindsay Gardner which was followed by an RBI single to centerfield by Clare Burnum. Later on in the inning, a single followed by two fielder’s choice singles loaded the bases for an Amanda Buchholz walk which scored another run. A two-run single by Ryan Realmuto would cap the first inning scoring at 6-0.

Tarrah Beyster was relieved after giving up six runs in one and one-third innings. Wendy Allen relieved Beyster and would give up three more runs to Texas. Beyster picked up her tenth loss of the season, second most in the league.

Arizona also committed three errors in the game giving up runs on two of those occasions.

“They out-pitched us, out-hit us and out-played us in the field today,” said Heat coach Debby Day. “We made some good contact. We’re doing a much better job at the plate,” she added.

Burnum and Realmuto led Texas offensively going a combined 6-for-7 with four RBIs, two runs, a double and a stolen base.

The two teams battle one more time on Saturday when Erica Beach takes the mound for the Heat. She will look to put a halt to the team’s seven game losing-streak. Game time is set for 7:35 p.m. PST at Hi Corbett Field.
