TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Heat/Akron Racers game went into extra innings then ended after the timed sprinklers went on deeming the field unplayable. The remainder of the game will take place prior to the third and final game of the series Friday night at 7:35.

After being down 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Arizona put up two runs to tie the game and send it to extra sets. A leadoff single by Tarrah Beyster followed by a walk by Sara Pickering put runners at first and second with no outs. After a groundout by Cheryl Bolding, pinch-hitter Jodi Otten singled to centerfield scoring one. She advanced to second on the throw.

A Nancy Evans walk loaded the bases loaded the bases for Becky Turi who hit into a fielders-choice single. Pickering was called out at home. Wendy Allen walked in another run tying the score before a Leah Braatz pop-up ended the inning.

In the top of the eighth, Akron’s Brandi Stuart singled to centerfield followed by another single to centerfield by Antoinette Armstrong put runners on first and second with no outs. An RBI single by the league’s top hitter in Iyhia McMichael scored Stuart putting the Racers up 6-5 with runners on first and third with no outs.

Shortly thereafter, the sprinklers came on and postponed the game. That will be the situation when the two teams take up play on Friday night.

For the first time this season, two homeruns were hit in the same Heat game. The first was a third-inning lea-off homerun by Nicole Trimboli to put the Racers up 3-0. The second came in the fifth when Tamara Ivie took the first pitch, from relief pitcher Danielle Henderson, to deep right field to tie the game at 3-3.
