ROSEMONT, Ill. (October 4, 2017) The Chicago Bandits have agreed to a one-year deal with right-handed pitcher Shelby Turnier, team officials announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Turnier, originally a second round selection in the 2016 NPF Draft out of Central Florida, owns a 9-11 career mark in the circle through her first two seasons at the professional level. The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida resident appeared in 25 contests during the 2017 season, including eight starts and maintained a 3.99 ERA.
“I’m really excited for what the 2018 summer has in store,” Turnier said. “Every day I’m more and more excited with all the news coming from the front office. I can’t wait to get back to Chicago and really have everyone bought in to our culture.”
Turnier enjoyed an excellent rookie campaign for the Bandits, which culminated in a 2016 Cowles Cup championship, the fourth title in franchise history. The 2015 AAC Pitcher of the Year delivered 10 scoreless innings during postseason action while notching one win and a pair of saves.
“Bringing back Shelby was a priority for us this offseason,” Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. “She’s been an important piece of our pitching staff in her two years in Rosemont and we’re excited to watch her continued growth at the professional level.”
After she became the highest draft pick in Central Florida program history, Turnier, who owns Knights’ single-season ERA record (0.87), made her NPF debut on June 4, 2016 and worked two innings of relief in a 9-8 win over the Scrap Yard Dawgs.
The four-time Cowles Cup champion Chicago Bandits will be back at The Ballpark at Rosemont for the 2018 season. For more information about the Chicago Bandits or to reserve your season tickets, please visit chicagobandits.com or call the box office at 877-722-6348.
