SAN MARCOS, TX(July 14, 2017) — In May of 2016, Scrap Yard Dawgs pitcher Monica Abbott became the first and only player in National Pro Fastpitch history to sign a million-dollar contract.

On Friday night against the Charge, she made that deal look like a bargain.

Abbott was perfect through 5 2/3 innings in her team’s 5-0 triumph at Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos and finished with a complete game one-hitter.

Abbott saw her bid for perfection broken up by a two-out walk in the bottom of the sixth that was drawn by Texas’ Mysha Sataraka. One inning later, the Charge’s Lauren

Haeger ended Abbott’s shot at a no-hitter by posting a one-out single.

The southpaw was dominant all night long, as she fanned the first six hitters she faced and finished the outing with 11 strikeouts.

The loss ended a three-game win streak for Texas (15-16), while the Scrap Yard Dawgs improved to 15-10 overall.

Charge rookie Delanie Gourley took the loss after surrendering all five runs — four of them earned — in relief of Dallas Escobedo.

Katiyana Mauga hit a two-run home run for the Dawgs against her former team.
