Allentown, Pa. - Right fielder Trena Peel and designated player Kellie
Wilkerson both stroked third inning home runs to lead the Philadelphia
Force to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Netherlands National Team. The
five run third inning propelled Amy Harre to her first victory in a
Philadelphia Force uniform.
The season couldn't have started off any better for the Force with short
stop Chelsea Spencer slamming a ground-rule double to lead off the game.
One out later, Spencer would score the first Force run of the season via a
triple from Peel.
The Force (1-0) broke the game open in the third inning. After Spencer
reached on an error, and center fielder Sharona McDonald singled, Peel
launched a blast over the center field fence. First baseman Jenna Hall
followed Peel with a single. Wilkerson finished off the inning with a
two-run blast to left center.
Harre (1-0) pitched five innings in her debut with the Force. She struck
out seven batters in her time in the circle in front of the 211 in
attendance on opening night.
Margo Pruis relieved Harre in the sixth and pitched the final two innings
for the save.
For Team Netherlands, Dagmar Bloeming took the loss. She gave up six of
the Force runs in 2 plus innings. Debby Connor and Saskia Kosterink each
blasted solo home runs for the Netherlands as they continue their tour of
the United States prior to the Summer Olympic Games.
The Force and the Netherlands resume their series Friday evening at 7:05
p.m. The game is to be played at ECTB Stadium.
