Henderson Leads Riptide Over Bandits

By:
LOWELL, Ma. - The New England Riptide and the Chicago Bandits met for game three of a four games series in Lowell tonight with the series tied at one all.

It was all Riptide from the beginning behind the four hit pitching of Danielle Henderson. Henderson pitched a complete game striking out six and walking two. The hardest hit ball was leadoff hitter Stacy May’s (2 for 3, walk) double. The Riptide jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when Shanel Scott drew a one out walk and as she has done 11 times previously this year, stole second.

Garland Cooper quickly single her home for the first run of the game. Cooper took second on the throw home and then third when Lindsay Schutzler‘s throw scooted past catcher, Meagan Willis. Lyndsey Angus recorded her 15th RBI of the season singling pinch runner Garland Cooper home to give the Riptide a 2-0 lead after one.

Both teams threatened for a few innings without scoring until the fifth when the Riptide put another run on the board. Lisa Modglin led off with a triple and was quickly brought home when Carrie Martin doubled into left center. Martin reached third, but was called out at home after trying to score on Angus’ ground out.

Henderson remained in control for the rest of the game with a bit of help from the defense, in particular center fielder Lisa Modglin and left fielder Shanel Scott who took extra bases with a runner on from Jaime Clarke in the sixth thus preserving the shutout for Henderson. The two teams finish their series on Sunday at 5:05 at Martin Softball Field before the Philadelphia Force comes in next week for a four game series.
