BUSTOS BELTS TWO, RACERS WIN 10-3
Akron, Ohio Crystl Bustos hit two home runs and Radara McHugh pitched a complete game as Akron topped Illinois, 10-3, Saturday afternoon at Firestone Stadium.
The Racers (31-6) won their third straight game, despite six errors. Illinois fell to 18-9 on its summer tour.
Akron pounded four home runs off Illinois pitcher Megan Rhodes. Center fielder Kelly Kretschman led off the bottom of the first inning with a dinger to center field.
Bustos and first baseman Oli Keohohou hit back-to-back solo shots in the third. Keohohous blast wrapped around the foul pole in left field and was her fourth of the season. Bustos added a two-run bomb in the fifth frame, plating Kristin Johnson, who had tripled.
A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Bustos leads the NPF with 17 home runs and 51 RBI. Kretschman, a 2004 gold medal winner, hit her first round-tripper as a Racer.
Illinois cut Akrons lead to 7-3 in the sixth inning, scoring two unearned runs on five Racer errors.
McHugh (6-0) fanned six and retired nine in a row over the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
The Racers and Cougars meet again Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
