Bandits and Australia Postponed

By:
Lisle, Ill— After an inning and a half in the book on Friday night, lightning and inclement weather forced the postponement of Friday night’s game between the Chicago Bandits and the Australian National Team.

The two teams will resume play on Sunday at noon. They will begin the day's originally slated contest after the conclusion of Saturday’s scheduled game. All fans with tickets to Saturday’s tilt will be admitted to both games, free of charge.

When action recommences on Sunday, the Bandits will have runners on first and second with one down in the bottom of the second.

In the home half of the Bandits' second at bat, after working the count full, first baseman Jennie Finch earned a led off with a walk.

After starting pitcher Gina Oaks popped out to the catcher, designated player Christina Enea recorded the first hit of her professional career to put two runners on for catcher Selena Collins. Before the Texas A&M alum could see her first pitch of the night, the game was halted.

After looking good in two innings of work against Australia on Friday, Gina Oaks walked the first batter in her first start of the year. Australian center fielder Amanda Doman took four straight pitches to earn the base on balls, but left fielder Belinda Wright followed up with a screamer to Haley Viefhaus at third. Viefhaus snagged the liner cleanly and fired to first to erase the lead off runner.

The Aussies did not put another runner on in the lightning-shortened evening.

Bandit outfielder Mel Wallach opened the evening’s action with an impressive “Jewel-like” rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, preceded by Australian outfielder Kerry Wyborn, who turned in a beautiful acapella version of Australia’s National Anthem.

Oaks will likely remain in the circle for the Bandits when the first game gets underway on Sunday. Finch is currently scheduled to toe the rubber in the second game.
