Tucson, Ari.--The Akron Racers came to Hi Corbett Field ready to play. Amy Kyler shutout the Heat by throwing a complete game four hitter in the Racers 4-0 win. The Racers plated four thanks to Olympic Gold Medalists Crstyl Bustos and Jenn Topping each hitting a two-run homerun.
Dana Sorensen, fresh off a no-hitter on Sunday, gave up four runs on seven hits in her third complete game of the season. The Heat managed only four hits off Akron starter Amy Kyler, all of them going for singles. Kyler struck out five batters and walked four.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when Crystl Bustos led off the inning with a walk. Jenn Topping followed up the walk by hitting a two-run homerun to right field to give the Racers a 2-0 lead that they would not give up. In the fifth, Bustos hit a two-run homerun of her own to make the score 4-0.
Lauren Bauer, Tairia Flowers, Toni Mascarenas and Cheryl Schaefer each had a hit for the Heat.
The second game of the series will begin at 7:30 pm tomorrow at Hi Corbett Field.
