Washington, PA – August 11,2014 - Chicago ace Monica Abbott was short just two hits of a perfect game in Monday’s national televised contest, carrying the Chicago Bandits to a 9-0 victory over the Pennsylvania Rebellion Tuesday at CONSOL Energy Park. Abbott pitched her fifth shutout of the season, allowing no runs and striking out nine. At the dish, Megan Wiggins had an outstanding night at the plate with two home runs. Wiggins finished 2-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Dallas Escobedo made her eleventh start in the circle for the Rebellion, taking the loss. Escobedo threw two and two thirds innings, allowing five runs and three home runs.
The offense was quick to back Abbott’s pitching gem as the team combined for four home runs, two off the lumber of leadoff hitter Megan Wiggins. Five runs in the opening three innings allowed the Chicago Bandits to easily take the lead. A solo home run by Wiggins in the first and a three-run blast by Wiggins in the second supplied the early offense and advantage, 4-0.
Additional home runs for Chicago came when Brittany Cervantes belted her league-leading 12th home run of the season in the third and teammate Cheyenne Coyle followed with a solo home run in the fifth to make the score 7-0.
The Bandits added two more scores in the seventh and the eighth to finalize the 9-0 win.
The Rebellion will play their final home game of their Inaugural Season August 12 at 7:05 PM ET. The game can be heard live on CBS Sports Network. For tickets, call 724-250-9555 or log onto www.rebellionprosoftball.com.
