Washington, PA - August 9, 2014 - It was one for the record books on Saturday, August 9 at CONSOL Energy Park as the Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by The Coury Financial Group, found themselves pitted in a 17-inning grudge match with the visiting Chicago Bandits, falling by a final score of 10-7. Sarah Pauly took the loss while Monica Abbott picked up the win for Chicago.

The Rebellion grabbed the lead early in the contest when designated player BB Bates, left fielder Andie Varsho and center fielder Ashley Carter plated on a Bandits throwing error in the bottom of the second. The Rebellion lead was stretched to 4-0 in the bottom of the third when Bates belted a solo home run, her first of the season.

The Bandits crept back into contention in the top of the fourth when first baseman Brittany Cervantes scored on a single from pinch hitter Alisa Goler. Goler crossed home later in the inning off of an RBI single by left fielder Emily Allard. An RBI double from second baseman Danielle Zymkowitz put the Bandits within one of the Rebellion.

The game was knotted at four runs each in the top of the sixth when Zymkowitz punched her second run-scoring hit of the night to score Allard. Neither team was able to score in the seventh inning, meaning that the game travelled into extra innings. No one, however could have predicted how far that trip would be.

After the Rebellion and the Bandits butted heads with little success for four innings, the Bandits broke the silence in the top of the 12th inning when third baseman Amber Patton drove in Zymkowitz who was placed on second base to begin the inning due to international extra inning regulations.

The Rebellion answered in the latter half of the 12th when Bates rocketed a single past the Bandits left side to score third baseman Jennifer Salling and even the score at 5-5. Bates proved to be a pivotal point in the Rebellion offense on the afternoon, going 3-5 with two RBI and scoring twice herself.

The Bandits looked to take the lead again in the top of the 14th when Allard plated on a groundout by center fielder Megan Wiggins, but the Rebellion once again fought back in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own from center fielder Brittney Lindley. After 14 innings, two complete games, the score remained tied at 6-6.

A sacrifice fly from the Bandits designated player Kristen Butler edged the Bandits ahead by one in the 15th, but the game marched on thanks to yet another comeback performance from the Rebellion, this episode in the form of Bates scoring on a passed ball.
The Rebellion luck sadly ran out, however in the top of the 17th inning, when Wiggins belted a two-run homer to push the Bandits ahead by a score of 9-7. A Rebellion’s throwing error allowed Patton to score later in the inning, giving the Bandits a three-run lead late into the afternoon.

The Rebellion gave it one last try in the bottom of the 17th and threatened with a runner on third base, but the Bandits defense was too much to handle, giving the grudge match victory to the Bandits by a final score of 10-7.

Despite the loss, the five-hour contest still goes down in history as the longest game in the Rebellion history in both game time and innings played.

The Rebellion and the Bandits will take a much-deserved day off on Sunday, August 10 and then return to their series on Monday, August 11. The game will be broadcasted by CBS Sports Network.  For tickets and/or group packages, contact the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office at 724.250.7412.  For fans cheering from home, listen to all of the action live on the MSA Sports Network, or follow the Rebellion on Twitter @PARebellion for game updates.
