Akron, OH – February 4, 2014 - Akron Racers GM, Joey Arrietta announced today the Rachele Fico, the first pick in the 2013 NPF Draft, will return to the Racers for her second season of play.

“I’m looking forward to great performances from Rachele this season,” noted Arrietta. “She is the consummate team player and I am confident that she will emerge as one of the best pitchers in the league over the next few years.”

The former LSU All-American led the Racers pitching staff with six wins in 74.2 innings pitched. Fico posted a 5.06 ERA and 37 strikeouts for the Racers in 2013.

Fico, an outstanding pitcher for the LSU Tigers, finished her senior season with a record of 24-13 and an ERA of just 2.34.  She struck out 232 of the batters she faced and finished her career with an impressive 797 strikeouts and a 78-43 record.  She earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American accolades in 2012 and 2013 becoming just the third player in LSU history to earn two First-Team All-American honors. Fico also received the 2012 Louisiana Pitcher of the Year Award.

“I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to play for and represent the Akron Racers again this summer,” explains Fico. “It is a humbling experience to be apart of the NPF’s oldest existing team and I am looking forward to what the 2014 season holds.”
