Akron Racers Cruise Past the NYNJ Comets 10 - 2

 
BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Akron Racers defeated the NY/NJ Comets 10-2 in in the third game of the four game series at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ. Despite being outhit by the Comets 9 – 8, the Racers scored early and never looked back.

The Akron Racers got on top right away in the first inning off of Comets starter Taryne Mowatt. Mowatt would walk four straight batters and hit a batter before giving up a single to Tess Sito. Angel Bunner would relieve Mowatt in the bottom of the first however the Racers would score 3 runs and never relinquish the lead the rest of the night.

The Racers scored again in the top of the second with a single by Taylor Schlopy who then advanced to third on an error by the Comets right fielder. Charlotte Morgan gave the Racers a 4 – 0 lead with an RBI single up the middle.

The Comets fought back and produced a run in the bottom of the second.  Starting Racers pitcher Brittany Mack hit Dorian Shaw to start the bottom of the second.  Angeline Quiocho singled to left field and was hit on the next play by a line drive shot from Brittney Lindley. Racers record an out on the play but Dorian Shaw advances and the Comets score their first run of the night. Kamekona struck out swinging to end the inning 4-1.

Racer’s Kaylyn Castillo hit a grand slam in the top of the 4th giving the Racers a very comfortable lead, 8 - 1. Tess Sito and Aja Paculba each had a single to produce one more run for the Racers making their lead 9-1.

Again, the Comets fought back in the bottom of the 4th as Sammie Garcia singled and stole second base.  Amanda Kamekona moved Garcia over and Garcia scored on a past ball to bring the score to 9-2. The Comets failed to produce any more runs in the inning as well as the rest of the game.  

The Racers would score one more run in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Charlotte Morgan making the final score 10-2. Jen Mineau would come in for the Akron Racers to close out the game.

The Comets will face the Racers one last time in this series tomorrow night at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ at 7pm EST.
